Montmartre, Paris. Bourgeoise society has been amazed in the past months by the paintings and sketches of artist Herni-Marie Raymond de Toulouse-Lautrec or simply known as Toulouse-Lautrec in the “underground” art world. His paintings have caused a big contoversy among critics and parisienne society by his “raw” depictions of the nightlife of the Montmartre distric. A distric of Paris famous for it`s bohemian lifestyle and cozy cobble stone streets filled with a delicate aroma of coffee, wine, romance, love, passion and lustful spirits that attract writers, artists, intellectuals, exotic dancers, ballerinas, poets, prostitutes, philosophers, and chefs from all over the world... - It's a place where I can move freely - he says |

Originally born in an aristocrat family from Albi, Tarn, in the Midi-Pyrènèes region of France. Tolouse-Lautrec started his career at an early age and moved to Paris a few years ago to set up his studio/office in Rue Caulaincourt next to the Goupil printshop where he can be seen during the day designing numerous publicity posters for establishments like restaurants, cabarets, dancehalls, circus bars, gourmet stores, bistros and cafes.

His genetic condition and past accidents hasn`t stoped him from pursuing his art career and now lives completely for his art! His post-impressionist style has been ifluenced by the classical Japanese woodprints that have recently become popular among the Paris Bourgoise art circle but affirms one of his greatest infulence has been and old skilfull Montmartre master who often painted ballerinas and cabaret singers by the name of Edgar Degas who belongs to the Vielle École Impressionist des Beaux-Arts... |

During the evenings he can be seen in different restaurants, bistros, bars, dancehalls, cabarets and brothels observing the “poetic nightlife" filled with dozens of beautiful women and exotic dancers while enjoying the "sweet melodies" created by skilled musicans slowly sipping his favorite digestive the “Tremblement de terre” or earthquake which he claims is his own creation... |

Tolouse-Lautrec frecuently visists the “chic
& trendy” cabaret Moulin Rouge famous
for
it`s ecclectic
clientele, vivid
dancing shows
and live music bands! Place where
he
has a permanent table
and special size bar stool reserved only for him in which
he enjoys to sit, drink and laugh all night
long while making swift
sketches that
he later turns into
brightly
colored beautiful paintings. While asked about why he painted
such controversial scenes and woman, he

He came as an
outsider to Montmartre
like
everybody else but now is regarded as one of the
locals. For
the past
couple of months he
has
been living on a brothel on rue de Casbah but it`s
been said he was recently admitted into a hospital for the mentally ill
in Marlomè. Art brokers have sold one of his latest painting for $22.4 million to an unknown private colector... |

"He did not overturn reality to discover truth,
where there was
nothing. He contented himself with
looking. He did not see, as many do, what we
seem to be, but what we are.
Then, with a sureness of hand and a boldness at
once sensitive and firm,
he revealed us to ourselves....fixed forever by the
artist's pitiless pencil" Journal de Paris |
